With the summer holidays fast approaching, you may be wondering how you are going to keep your little ones entertained for six long weeks. Well, in this blog I hope to help you. My Fairy workers want me to share their enchanting take on the traditional Bored Jar – The Fairy Fun Jar. This simple little concept will give you 75 magical things to do this summer holidays.
The Fairies also want me to let you know how you can get their free printables, to make executing this idea super quick and super easy.
So, let’s get started …
What’s that you say, Fairy friend? It’s July already?
Oh my giddy goodness! Where does the time go.
So, you’ll be starting to think about how you are going to entertain your little ones once they are released from school. That’s not an easy task, I know. Six weeks can be a terribly long time in a small person’s life. Even with a trip away, some days out or a spell in holiday club, finding things to do this summer may have you biting your nails.
But never fear my sweet! This is just the sort of challenge your friends behind the Fairy Door relish. After all, fun and laughter are what Fairies love best. It stands to reason that they will know just how to help you out.
Have you heard of a “Bored Jar”?
There is one thing that a Fairy never is, and that is BORED.
Shall I tell you why?
In the centre of the capital city of Fairyland is a Magical Wishing Well. Now, this Wishing Well has all kinds of wondrous properties, but in essence it is the town “problem solver”. So, should a Fairy ever be at a loss for something to do they simply flutter down to the Well, pull up the bucket, and there within they will find a little card containing a helpful suggestion for Fairy Fun.
In this world we are not blessed with Magical Wishing Wells in our town centres. However, occasionally some clever clogs will have an moment of inspired genius and develop a simple idea that has magical repercussions. I believe the “Bored Jar” falls into this category.
The ideas within the Bored Jar are like the tap of a wand on your child’s imagination
The Bored Jar is just an ordinary large jar full of little bits of paper containing short prompts for things to do this summer. The activities suggested should always be things that are relatively easy to achieve. They should not be anything that involves extraordinary expense or travel. Equally they should not be anything that involves too much parental interference.
To my mind, the ideas within the Bored Jar are like the tap of a wand on your child’s imagination. Just enough to spark an idea that they can then follow wherever it takes them. The Bored Jar is used to encourage your child to learn how to think of ways to entertain themselves. In an age where we are increasingly told what to do and how to do it, this is a skill set that modern children understandably struggle to hold on to.
75 magical things to do this Summer are at your fingertips, with our FREE printable cards
So, given our lack of Wishing Wells, my Fairy workers have borrowed the concept of the Bored Jar and made it their own. They have created “The Official Fairy Nice Fairy Fun Jar”. And they would like to gift you everything you need to create and use it for Fairy Fun. All you will need to provide is a large jar and a printer and they will do the rest.
To get your hands on this magic spell for boredom my dear, you’ll need to step inside the Secret Fairy Circle. This is a members-only area, but it’s super easy to join.
Membership is included with all of our beautiful Fairy Doors. Or you can purchase lifetime access separately HERE.
What’s included in your Fairy Fun Jar kit
Included in your Fairy Fun Jar kit will be 75 tiny cards containing things to do this summer. Of course, being sent by your friends behind the Fairy Door, they often have a Fairy or Elf theme.
The Fairies have tried to give a good range of activities too. Some cards suggest things that take place in the home. Some cards are suggestions for outdoor fun. There are ideas for craft activities, creative writing, and reading exercises. There are games to play together with siblings or pals, activities to do with adults, and things to do independently. Happily the Fairies have included some quiet moments too.
But what I think you will like best are the “Be a Fairy helper” cards …
Fairies even make chores sound like fun!
A very important part of being a Fairy is the desire to do good deeds. With the “Be a Fairy helper” cards your friend behind the Fairy Door is encouraging your little one to lend a hand around the home, and gain that delightful feeling inside that they have been of great service to you. When they pull one of these cards, don’t be tempted to treat the idea as a chore. Instead celebrate how wonderful it is that they are going to be so helpful. And when the job is done, heap on plenty of praise and perhaps even a little reward.
Time to start having some Summer Fairy fun
So my sweet, as if by magic we have banished the phrase “Mummy! I’m bored” from your summer holidays. There is absolutely no need to thank us. Just don’t waste a moment more.
I really love your fairy doors a lot.
